Baby leek

The leek is a vegetable belonging, with onion and garlic, to the Alliaceae, the onion family. The white elongated bulb at the base of the leaves, make a very tasty fresh vegetable, either on its own or in stews or casseroles. The rich green tops of leek is excellent for flavouring soups and stews. They are also very nutritious and very rich in vitamin A.

Unlike onions or garlic, leeks do not form bulbs or produce cloves but develop an edible 6 to 10 inch long round stem as much as 2 inches in diameter. The leek has leaves very different to garlic. They are flat rather than round and hollow like onion leaves.
