Guava

Guava is an evergreen shrub or small tree originating from Central and South America. The oval fruit measures 4 to 12 cm. The peel is green to yellow green and often shows pink spots. The soft gritty flesh is white, yellow or pink and is extremely rich in vitamin A, B and C.
A guava is completely edible: the peel is rather bitter and sour, while the flesh is sweet, especially in the center. Guavas are used in juices, marmelades, preserves, and sometimes even as a substitute for tomatoes.
