Galanga

Galanga is a rhizome in the ginger family that has both culinary and medicinal uses. Although it looks like ginger, its taste is pine-like with a hint of citrus. Galanga is cultivated in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia). In the kitchen, it is used as a herb and can be bought in oriental shops in powder form. Galanga is said to have the effect of an aphrodisiac. It is used as a remedy against 'heartaches'.
Galanga is a root that grows into long leaves and stems with bunches of white flowers that can be up to 1,5 metres in height.
