Avocado

The avocado is a pear-shaped fruit (berry) from 7 to 20 centimetres long, weighs between 100 and 1000 grams, and has a large central seed, 3 to 5 centimetres in diameter. The fruit is not sweet, but fatty, strongly flavored, and of smooth, almost creamy texture. The flesh is typically greenish yellow to golden yellow when ripe.

The subtropical species grows best in a climate without frost and little wind. The best soil and climate conditions for the avocado are met only in a few areas of the world, like Spain, South Africa, Peru and other parts of central and southern America. Each region has different types of cultivars.
