Onion

The onion is the name for a great variety of cultivars from the Allium family. The colour can vary from red to brown, white or yellow. Onions contain about 8% sugar in the form of glucose and saccharose and up to 90% water. They also contain protein, calcium, sulfur, fluoride, provitamin A, B complex vitamins, and vitamins C and E; and have long been used for medicinal purposes.
