Lemongrass

Lemongrass is a perennial stalk with a height of up to 1m, which has nothing in common with the lemon, despite its name. The name derives from the lemony odour released when the plant is crushed. The most important substance is the volatile lemongrass oil, also known as West Indian lemon or limon oils, which can be recovered industrially by distillation.

Lemongrass is at home in South India and Ceylon and it is cultivated in Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Java, the Moluccas Islands, in China, Guatemala, Haiti and Brazil.
